Background

About

I'm Artūras Varkalis — a freelance Unreal Engine gameplay programmer and technical audio systems architect based in Vilnius, Lithuania (EU). I've been building games professionally for 6+ years across 7 shipped and delivered titles.

My work lives at the seam between gameplay logic and sound design. Most teams treat these as separate disciplines handled by separate people. I work across both — which means the systems I build are integrated from the start: gameplay events that drive audio state, audio timing that locks to beat grids, procedural music that responds to player actions without requiring a dedicated audio programmer to bridge the gap.

I've worked as a sole programmer, a co-founder, and a rotational contractor on teams up to 30 people. I write technical documentation, communicate directly with clients and stakeholders, and manage my own workload end-to-end.

Timezone: EU (Lithuania, UTC+3). I have flexible overlap with US teams and have worked with US-based studios throughout my career.
